About The Club

parma-0256The Malta Feline Guardians Club is a recent cat organization established on the Maltese Islands . MFGC is a non profitable organization, whose aim is to sponsor and promote the welfare of all breeds of cats, including household pets. The club has the intention of holding cat shows and exhibitions and seminars, so as to promote the interest and knowledge of domestic cats.

The aim of the club is to cultivate friendship among and promote the interest of the owners, fanciers and breeders of cats. It will also encourage breeding towards the WCF Standards and encourage the registration of cats with WCF (World Cat Federation). The MFGC is the only Cat Club who is officially a fully recognized club by WCF in the Maltese Islands . This means that MFGC is beyond the patronage because it is a qualified and renowned club abroad. The MFGC besides this, will promote and encourage kindness to all animals and assist in prevention of cruelty and mistreatment of animals. It will also encourage the spaying and neutering of any and all cats not specifically being used as part of a viable breeding program in order to reduce the trend toward overpopulation of, and tragedy among unwanted domestic cats.

The WCF (World Cat Federation) was founded on 1988 in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil by three clubs which were seeking for more democratic and human procedures in the cat fancy, more than other existing federations ever had. Right now the WCF consists of more than 540 clubs throughout the world covering all continents including the United States .

The WCF is registered in Germany as ” eingetragener Verein ” and – when European community is ready – in Brussel as a European federation, too.

The WCF takes part at consultations, arranged by the European parliament in Strasbourg , and is responsible for animal welfare and legislation in some working parties and hearing. A WCF member, whether it is a club or a federation, is independent in his business.

The WCF´s responsibilities are …

* International cattery registration
* Education, training and examination of the International Judges
* Standards and points
* Giving rules and classes at shows
* International liaisons
