They say that while dogs have owners, cats have staff and Sunday's cat show organised by the Malta Feline Guardians Club was ample proof of this as felines had their owners at their beck and call, with their every whim attended to. More than 1,200 people made the most of the lovely weather and drove to the Coastline Hotel to see the cats and vote for their favourite one. One of the kittens, Micabliss Soraya, owned by Malvina Ceccarelli, did the finest job of all and won the category of Best Overall. Sixty pure breeds - mostly Persians - and domestic cats vied for attention in the hope of getting some extra mackerel from their owners if they won one of the prizes. "We were overwhelmed by the feedback of the public, and they took a great interest in the way the cats are kept and cared for," club president Kevin Charles Micallef said. The cat show was being held in preparation for the first International Cat Show in April at the Radisson SAS Golden Sands Resort Hotel. The club has been working hard to get two foreign judges, one from Spain and another from Italy, to judge the different breeds. "Some of those taking part in the exhibition were a bit disappointed that unless they had a pure breed they would be unable to participate under the championship title. However, being an international cat show we hope this will serve to boost the standard and generate more interest," Mr Micallef said. The show was held under the patronage of the Rural Affairs and Environment Ministry and under the auspices of the World Cat Federation of Germany. It was supported by Micabliss Persians, Eukanuba and Greenview (Tidy Cat). www.maltafelineguardiansclub.com |
